Protecting edibles from damage

The same guidelines apply to the use of slug pellets on a vegetable patch or allotment as apply to a household garden.

Use the right amount, in the right place at the right time.

However, there are some things you can do to prevent or minimise the damage done to your crops by slugs and snails.

Planting edibles in containers with copper strips around them is one. And being selective in which crops you choose to grow is another. Onions, leeks and garlic tend to be left alone, and some gardeners use a garlic wash to keep the pests at bay.
